Bury Park - My Story

The Bury Park area of Luton has seen a huge geographical and
lifestyle changes from 1960s, 70s and 80s to present days. Many
people who have seen and experienced the changes are in their
late 70s and 80s.
Through this project our aim is to contact people who have
experienced and witness the changes and capture their memories
and experiences in a reminiscence type docufilm with a view to
share their memories and experiences with the current and future
generations through using this website, Bedfordshire Archives
and other platform, including social media and radio
broadcasting.
Summary of project:
· Engagement of 15 or more young people, as volunteer, from
different backgrounds and provide them all with a range of
soft-skills development training, as well as confidence
building, leadership development, teamwork and other key
life-long learning opportunities.
· Completion of DBS checks and training of young people,
followed by engaging them all in different volunteering roles to
support the project coordinator in developing and delivering the
project.
· Upon completion of recruitment, DBS checks and delivery of
training, project will involve volunteer team carrying out
research, visiting museums and archive centres with a view to
collect stories and evidence about the geographical and
life-style changes of Burypark area of Luton from 1960s, 70s and
80 to present days. It will also involve contacting people who
have experienced and witness the changes and capture their
memories and experiences in a reminiscence type docufilm. The
production and post-production of the film will be carried out
by external professionals but volunteers on the project will be
able to shadow the professional production and post-production
team, enabling them to gain new skills in these areas.
· Volunteers will get paid £10 per day max 30 days to cover
travel, food, refreshment.
